MAY Jun SEP 23 1999 2000 2001 6 captures 11 May 00 - 7 Apr 01 Close Help RHQ Car Manager 1.3 BETA update is available for download. An Extreme Editing FAQ is now available on RVExtreme! Check out the Re-Volt FAQ at Racer's Point. Check out other Re-Volt Web Sites on the Re-Volt Web Ring. Reinier gives his two cents on how to make your car skins quickly and efficiently. Read about it here. Some cool cars coming soon from CADster. 19 June 2000 It's Coming. It's here, the new RHQ screens mentioned yesterday and also in the RP forums. Below is a short summary of things along with the image below. WARNING: The preview screen of the new RHQ is is VERY big, so be ready for a longer download time for dailup users (sorry, wanted to keep the quality up). Design is complete for the site, all that will occur now are minor edits until a final edit is ready. The site has been cleared for CF implementation, most of it will be done pretty fast. The biggest feature which is the downloads of course, will be put in place last. Most components are already done but one major item is left and will be done once Partz has a final design doc submitted. We are planning on some changes based on GOOD suggestions or comments from the RP Forums, if it's a bash or anything negative we won't consider it. We'll be looking for any suggestions for something new or possible improvement ideas. Any posts which are like "I hate this" would hopefully be done in a way so it's not just a one liner. Rather the post actually covers what you do not like on the new design. The CF: This is all about the downloads. Everyone will be able to create a user profile on the site. If you upload a car or track just log in, fill out a form and submit the form. Files are uploaded and the form is processed into a holding area. This is where the files are reviewed to make sure all the fields are entered and any additional information is included. Once it's reviewed and the screenshot has been checked it'll get approved. Once approved it shows up in the listings, it'll also be on the main page. There will be some changes to this, you'll see them once Partz has his special feature included into the whole system. You'll also be able to update files, just login, choose an existing file and do an update, it'll show up on the site as an updated file. Right now we have to edit any problems with file info, in the new site you can do any edits required, so if you spell your email wrong, it's a couple clicks away from fixing it yourself. We'll probably leave email entries open, but this is up to Partz, he'll decide on how many ways you can send in a file. That's as far as I'll go now. Once Partz and I have sealed up his downloads feature, I'll have him post the details here. So go ahead and enjoy the new screen, it'll take a while to load ;) I do want to send a word out to those who have emailed us and continued to show their support for RHQ. Thanks guys. Soul 19 June 2000 How's This? Alright, this should kill a good number of those "access problems" people are having. We made some changes to the server which will remove the errors in all likely hood. Don't forget, new screens of the NEW RHQ site coming later this week. Keep your eye open, they will be posted before Thursday. Soul 19 June 2000 Loss of Cool I would like to apologize for my loss of control this weekend on the RacersPoint Forum. The site has been going thru some DNS troubles and a few assorted bugs, But we think they are taken care of. We also have some surprises coming up for you loyal visitors. So keep checking back over the next weeks for more info. Just a reminder that I am gonna be on vacation next month for 10 days, July 6th thru July 16th, so get your cars and tracks in before the July 4th holiday if you want me to get em posted before I leave for Florida. Any of you extremers who are gonna be in the Tampa area, let me know and maybe we can meet up and discuss ReVolt in person. :-)) Partz 15 June 2000 Updates and Such Would like to apologize for the problems all of you have been having accessing RHQ lately, don't know if they have been totally fixed but they seem to be gone from my end. Had been waiting till they calm down before doing any updates here. As most of you Extremers out there already know, Ali released RVGLUE V4 recently, it's available in the Files section. Check out the Top Downloaded Cars and Tracks for June 2000 in the Custom Sections. I've also put the Top 20 Downloaded Tracks back up in the Tracks section. Am working on getting the downloads in order, so bear with me. Am gonna be on vacation next month for 10 days, July 6th thru July 16th, so get your cars and tracks in before the July 4th holiday if you want me to get em posted before I leave for Florida. Any of you extremers who are gonna be in the Tampa area, let me know and maybe we can meet up and discuss ReVolt in person. :-)) Partz -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6 June 2000 Got Spare Change? Some intersting news from the guys at WRE: Acclaim, which is facing the possibility of being delisted from the Nasdaq stock exchange, is apparently looking for a buyer. The company today adopted a shareholder rights plan, to prevent against a hostile takeover. In announcing the move, though, Acclaim made a point of stressing that "the distribution of the Rights is not intended to prevent a takeover of the Company and should not deter any prospective bidder willing to negotiate with the Board of Directors and pay a full and fair price for the Company's shares." In corporate speak, that's akin to shouting. Acclaim has appealed Nasdaq's decision to delist it, an action that was taken after the company's stock languished under $5 per share for an extended period. Over the last few months, Acclaim has quietly shed most of its PC gaming business to focus on console gaming, specifically the next generation consoles. Among those is a PlayStation 2 sequel to Shadow Man, the PC game that met with mixed reviews. It's not the gaming company in trouble these days. Interplay, also, is facing a possible delisting from Nasdaq. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 29 May 2000 SpaceMan Releases Updates to Re-Ville SpaceMan just sent in two versions of the update. You can grab the movie (watch it online) here -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20 May 2000 Car and Track Submissions Just a short post to remind everyone on the proper way to send a submission to me. Please name the zip file what you want it to be called on the site, substituting underscores or dashes for spaces. If the track is extreme, please tell me in the email. If you want a screenshot displayed, please include it as a separate attachment, and use jpg format only. Once a submission has been added to the site, I can't edit it. PartzMan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Top Downloads for May 2000 The Top 20 Downloads for Cars and Tracks section has been updated to show the May 2K results. Fixed some more script errors and now they are running perfect. Go and download your favorite track or car and see who comes out with the most. Check it out here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 15 May 2000 Re-Volt 2 Screens Here are a few RV2 shots from E3. Re-Volt 2 Press Release Experience Mini-Racer Mayhem In Acclaim's Upcoming ReVolt 2: Pocket Rockets Remote control boats, new environments, and play modes make for a state-of-the-art racer Glen Cove, NY (May 5, 2000) - Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKLM), a leading worldwide interactive entertainment company, today announced that its remote-control racer, Re-Volt 2: Pocket Rockets, is currently in development for the PlayStationâ game console. Slated for a summer 2000 release, the game is based on the original Re-Volt and features new remote control cars and boats as well as all-new weapons, tracks, controls and environments. "Acclaim Studios London has enhanced the Re-Volt engine to make ReVolt 2: Pocket Rockets a faster and graphically richer game that is specifically developed for the PlayStation," said Jaime Grieves, brand manager for Acclaim Entertainment. "The control, physics and collision systems have been optimized, and we are taking special care to include the key elements of Re-Volt that made the game an award-winner for the PC." Re-Volt 2: Pocket Rockets will feature dozens of cars, trucks, and boats, some from the original Re-Volt. Racers will choose the vehicle which best suits their driving skills among three different categories: Top Speed, Handling, and Stability. Bonus vehicles open up as the players advance through the game. Re-Volt 2: Pocket Rockets takes place within a Movie Themed World, similar to Universal Studios. Races to win the four cups (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum) take place in five diverse environments including a Jungle World, Horror World, Sci-fi World, Monster World and Cartoon World. The races take place on water-specific and hybrid tracks so that boats can now race against cars. Re-Volt 2: Pocket Rockets also has a hand-brake feature specifically designed to enhance its gameplay by giving the player the ability to power-slide or perform super tight turns. The game is designed to be very easy to just pick up and play, even for beginners. Acclaim's marketing campaign for Re-Volt 2: Pocket Rockets will include print advertisements in lifestyle, video game and hobby magazines. In addition, there will be a dedicated site on acclaim.com as well as online advertising on video game and RC sites. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12 May 2000 Nick Baynes Speaks Out On The Forum Nick Baynes posted a short message at the Forum today regarding RV2. Check it out here: Just wanted to let everyone know that we are having trouble with the scripts that add cars. So please hold off on the car submissions until further notice. Track submissions are still being accepted, so send your tracks to RHQ Track Submissions, and I'll get em posted. That's all for now. PartzMan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9 May 2000 Tracks and Cars being accepted Hello folks, PartzMan here. Now that I've gotten all the things I need to start getting the d/l's sections of the site organized, RHQ will now accept and post all cars and tracks within 24 hours of my receiving the file. Please send all submissions to woodward@nothnbut.net, and I'll get em posted. Am currently in the process of cleaning out the links sections of the site. I will be removing all dead links within the next few days. PartzMan Joins You'll start seeing PartzMan show up on the page more, he'll be managing the files section of RHQ as we prepare the new site. He is also doing some touch up tasks in the links area. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5 May 2000 Re-Volt HQ completes Re-Volt Track Club merger agreement Re-Volt HQ (RHQ) completed a merger agreement with the Re-Volt Track Club (RVTC) which will see the two sites merge under the current Re-Volt HQ domain. Existing RVTC staff will join RHQ as File Editor staff. Michael "PartzMan" Woodward RVTC Webmaster will join RHQ has Lead File Editor. Divyesh Lavingia will remain as Project Manager for RHQ. Beginning Friday May 5, 2000 both sites will begin a 4 week transition in which the existing staff will be introduced to RHQ and RVTC site content will be merged into the new RHQ site currently under development. Initial new staff will begin appearing on the site early next week. Files Return Now that we have the old download issues fixed. Mainly the comments and password bugs, files will be added to the site once again. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 27 April 2000 Files! New email location coming for the files tomorrow, which will allow files to be processed from the mail server faster. We're also looking at making a temporary uploading system which will allow registered users (registered to use the feedback feature) to upload files directly. If we get the direct upload running, turn around times will drop as we no longer require the files to be processed by mail servers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 26 April 2000 Re-Volt 2! We spoke with Acclaim and confirmed that Re-Volt 2 will be shown at the upcoming E3 Expo this May. Re-Volt HQ will be bringing you coverage on the new title right from the show floor. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 24 April 2000 Massive Cars Update It's done, at last. The massive car update we've been working on. We hoped to have the first set up last Friday, then the rest over the weekend. However, we hit a major problem with the database, so after some surgery to the backend of the site, all the cars are showing up now. If you want to submit your cars, send it to the email posted below, and make sure the image is NOT included in the ZIP file (just makes it easier for posting). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 16 April 2000 EB Lists Re-Volt 2 Electronics Boutique is listing Re-Volt 2 for the Playstation. Release date: August 23, 2000. Price is currently est. at $44.99 but any of this could change. E-Mails & Site Notes A little note, you should avoid sending any mail to the @revolthq.com domain as these emails are not setup at the new location. Send everything to soul@gagames.com, for now. Also, a note about site work, we'll be starting some major work tomorrow, but none of this will be seen by any readers until it goes live. You will see some changes come and go on the site for the next day or so as some small tasks are done to clean things up from the move. None of this should actually cause problems with the site, but at least you know what's going on. Regular news coverage should kick in any moment now. File Submittions Submittion email fixed. Link will launch email app. Turn-Around time will be upwards of 3 days right now. You can keep sending in those files, we're dealing with a database issue right now, but once this is fixed, adding the files will not be a problem. Anyone who has submitted now should see their files Monday or Tuesday at the latest. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 15 April 2000 News Returns Sorry for the short outage earlier with the news. Had a technical glitch along with a couple server hic-ups which made things interesting. Everything should be running normally now. File Submittions Open File submittions are now open, instructions are below: Send your car submissions to soul@gagames.com (Temporary submittion address) Cars which do not have screenshots included with the ZIP file will be put up without the screenshot (that is, I will no longer make them for you). I strongly encourage everyone to use Hypersnap-DX for your pictures. Check out the article in The Garage on how to use it. Car and Track submissions must be sent in ZIP format. All others will no longer be accepted. It is strongly recommended that all car and track directories (and their ZIP files) be created without any spaces in their names, since some browsers cannot download them. Truncate the name (for example, from "This Car Name.zip" to "ThisCarName.zip") The turn around time will be around 24-48 hours to have files posted online. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13 April 2000 ReVolt HQ Returns Hello! Revolt HQ is proud to annouce it's return after some idle time as the site switched owners. Now, time for the introductions! I am Divyesh Lavingia, Project Manager at Gamer's Alliance. I'll be the new Project Lead here at ReVolt HQ. I'm not new to the field, with over 5 years of experience developing and maintaining sucessful sites relating to gaming. I've been a part of Gamer's Alliance since 1996 holding positions as Site Relations Co-Ordinator to Project Manager for various sites. I currently lead up a site related to Maxis' The Sims called ProjectSims and now ReVolt HQ. What can you expect in the coming weeks here at ReVoltHQ? We're already working on some major enhancements to the site, along with our own forums packed with features, new content and much more. We've also got some great treats for ReVolt fans, but we can't comment much on that just yet. So stay tuned as ReVolt HQ kicks things into gear and brings you the best coverage ever. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 March 2000 New Owner Found I will be making preparations this weekend for the migration of the site and domain to a new owner. Until the paperwork is signed I can't comment, but I will say that the new owner is well known in the gaming industry, and is committed to providing all of you the latest and greatest Re-Volt news and files. Stay tuned! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6 March 2000 Life After Death? Usually when it's quiet it means that somethin's a brewing, and that's whats happening here at RHQ. I hope to let everyone know what will happen to the site soon. Sorry, but I'll have to keep you guys in suspense for a few more days. :) My apologies to not responding to your e-mails - consulting and college work have kept me busy. I hope to reply soon! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 29 February 2000 Submission Deadline And RHQ News Tonight's the last night for car and track submissions - I'll put the final batch up tomorrow. Send 'em now or forever hold your peace :) A lot of people have written about what will happen to RHQ now that I am no longer updating it. Well, I have some good news - I've been talking to a couple of parties who are interested in 'adopting'... It's a wise decision because there are a LOT of Re-Volt fans out there! But it's not too late to make an offer, so e-mail me if you think you got what it takes to run this baby! In any case, I hope transfer the site to a new owner within a week or so. I will post any further news on this site and on The Forum. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 23 February 2000 All Good Things Must Come To An End I knew I'd be writing this message someday, but I didn't think it'd be so soon. I regret to inform everyone that I can no longer put in the time required to maintain the site. As a result, after March 1, 2000 I will no longer be able to add new submissions and other material to RHQ. The site will remain up until the middle of March, at which time the current web server into a Linux workstation :) I will be refocusing my time on other web projects that I've put on the back-burner over the last few months. Although I won't be serving up the hottest car and tracks any longer, I'll still be around. No doubt I will make the occasional trip to Racer's Point and check out what's happening in The Forum. Who knows, maybe I'll make another update or two to Car Manager! I want to thank every single one of you for being part of such a great community. It has been a pleasure to talk to all of you who have written in, and I will miss hearing from you with your newest cars, tracks (and jokes!) Keep in touch. Tony Fazzone Webmaster Re-Volt Headquarters -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21 February 2000 Where's Tony? Rumors of my death are exaggerated! I was out of town all weekend, and wasn't able to respond to all of your e-mails. I will be looking at them today, I'll put up some submissions tonight. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 16 February 2000 Re-Volt 2: Good News And Bad News GA-Source has reported that Acclaim announced the release of Re-Volt 2 for the PSX. Yeah! But wait. Acclaim also states that it will NOT be ported to the PC. GA-S interviewed Adam Kahn, PR Manager for Acclaim, who stated that they were focusing on the console market. Check out the above links for more information. Thanks go out to Steven Cox and Ena's for giving me the heads-up. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mirrors Wanted Over the past few weeks I've received a number of e-mails regarding the slowness of the site. You know, how downloads sometimes drop and when they don't they take forever. If you've got problems, trust me, it's not you. RHQ is currently running off a broadband connection in my studio (I use it and my other systems to heat my apartment ). I'm looking for people willing to mirror our file collection. I would need around 500MB and read/write access to update the directories. The site should also be up 24/7 and be able to handle the additional traffic. In return, uh, I will give you a collection of every custom car and track submitted :) If you think you can help, please drop me a line. Thanks. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 14 February 2000 Re-Volt Voice Chat On Racer's Point Wayne has wowed us again by opening a live Voice Chat channel for all you Re-Volt fans out there. Very cool stuff, much better than chat rooms :) Logged in last night and saw a bunch of familiar faces. Some of the players were doing one-on-one chats and racing each other at the same time. Click on the link above and give it a look-see. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12 February 2000 Public Service Announcement BurnRubr wanted me to tell everyone that it's OK to repaint his cars, however, he requests that if you do so that you give him credit for the original car body in your README. Sounds fair to me :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 February 2000 Copyright Wrongs Righted Er, right :) I wanted to remind all car authors that RHQ respects copyrights claimed by custom car makers - if you modify a custom car which has a 'no modification' copyright attached to it and the original author complains, I will remove it from the site... so read the README before any modifications, or I will have to run a DELETE query in my tables :) I feel that one of the continuing reasons why the game is so popular is because of the small number of talented car builders who have been contributing with custom car bodies. Each one brings a number of possibilities (read: repaints) which can provide additional varieties of cars. I'm a firm believer of free and open submissions, but then again, I'm not spending a great amount of time and patience building them. Please respect the work of others and abide by their wishes in their README files. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- R/C Links I was over a Re-Volt competitiors site and saw that they really have a better... site of R/C links :) If you're totally fanatic about R/C racing you should check out this page. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7 February 2000 R/C Racing Anyone? Gregory Cathalina told me about his new R/C Racing site. It's not Re-Volt related, but the thought occurred to me that people who like racing remote-controlled cars on the computer might be interested in the real thing. Anyway, check it out, and if you have or know of any other R/C fan sites I'll put 'em up! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Little Downtime Is Good Had to bring down the web server for a couple of hours to give the ol' server a little TLC. It should be my last major downtime until I replace it, which will happen in the next month or two. Everything's back to normal, however please let me know if this is not the case :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6 February 2000 PCGamer Likes Re-Volt In case you haven't heard, PCGamer named Re-Volt Best Racing Game. Thanks for CyBinary for sending in a scan of the piece (it's about 120KB, so all you 14.4KB modemers beware) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Re-Voltlution --> TZA A decision has been made. PSK260 will be focusing totally of TZA stuff, and the new site (which will be called TZA) will be up in a few days. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Casey Kasem Announces... I've brought back the RHQ Top 20 Car List - this is a listing of cars that have proven to be hot items over the last few months. I wanted to list some of the 'oldies but goodies' that have been lost in the annals of time. Maybe if you're lucky you'll be on this list someday! :) This is NOT a Hall Of Fame list - so what you see may surprise you! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TZA Only At The Re-voltlution? PSK260 is thinking about whether or not to focus his Re-Volt Web Site on his new The Zone Alternative (TZA) program (see the news from 21 January below to read about it) or keep the site the way it is. He'd like to know what you think. The link to his Request For Comments in The Forum is here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 February 2000 Now Entering #Re-Volt.... Firecool sent me the heads up that he has created a new web site for people who want to meet over IRC and play in a tournament setting. I just stopped by and was trés impressed. It's definitely worth the visit, especially if you want to meet new people and play against some serious competition. Please support their efforts and stop by! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Newz Well, another month has passed. I stayed home today since I've got the bug and felt like staying under the covers. Just me and my bottle of Nyquil :) Between the weekend and my recent illness the submissions have overfloweth with great goodness. Expect to see some butt kicking cars on the site within the next few days. In case you're wondering, the Hot Cars for February will appear in a few days. I'm suspicious that I received a lot of cars today, on the first day of the month :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 31 January 2000 Cough Cough I've been a little under the weather recently, so my apologies if I've been slow responding to e-mails and putting up submissions. Hopefully I'll have another batch of stuff up tomorrow :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 27 January 2000 Dreamcast Level Movie on Racer's Point Wayne put up a movie of the Dreamcast "Rooftop" level available only on the Dreamcast version. You can take a look at it by stopping by Racer's Point (as if you haven't been there already!) It shows a lap around the track, and it's also a great way to see what the Dreamcast version looks like if you haven't had the opportunity to see it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RC Racing 'Takes Off' Triple6s told me of the announcement of an RC-plane game at Yeastman's Corner. It's slated for a fall release. Airfix Dogfighter is an airplane action game where the player controls his scale 1:72 World War II plastic model airplane in a number of indoor or outdoor missions, or engage in head-to-head dogfights with other human players." "In single player mode, the player will face a series of tricky missions where he will gain experience and gradually get access to more powerful aircraft and weaponry. The game will keep track on how the player is doing from mission to mission, and will not enable a new mission until the previous one is successfully completed. In the single player game, you will not belong to a certain nation but this will vary depending on the mission." YMC has a link to the actual press release, so stop on over for the scoop. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 26 January 2000 Technical Difficulty Our revolthq.com domain was down for a couple of hours today due to a screwup with our domain provider. Looks like some unfortunate techie in California had to drive into work early this morning to re-boot a server :) All is well now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 25 January 2000 Hall Of Fame Removed If you haven't noticed, I've removed the Hall Of Fame pages from the Cars and Tracks pages. These pages stopped working once I disabled voting a couple of months ago. To be fair to the newer submissions (which wouldn't make the list since it wasn't being updated) I felt it necessary to remove it. It may not be the last you'll see of these pages, however - I am thinking about bringing back voting, and these pages would also return if I do. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Drinks On The House For Beta Testers Well, not for you younger folks :) I wanted to thank everyone who has sent back feedback on the new Car Manager. As predicted there are a few hiccups with the new parameters.ini editor (see below). I feel bad since I cannot give immediate solutions (since I did not make this part of the program), but rest assured that I will look at the code in the near future, and that I will give users the option to use either the new editor or a text editor in the next version.
